EXCULSIVE: RISE REVIEW
Song Previews:
Rise: The first song of the album is a great one. This song starts off the story of Rise. In the song we are encouraged to "Rise in Revolution" against the things of the world. It reminds me of Hero with electronic elements. Jen Ledger sings the backing vocals and the bridge. Awesome song!
Sick Of It: This song is one of my favorites. Seth's guitars and Jen's drums on this song
are awesome! This is the more aggressive but still upbeat Skillet that produced
Monster. In the song the protagonist knows that he's got problems in his life
and has to fix them. He's sick of all the times he's failed and lost his way.
Audibly and lyrically it is sick! (Pun intended)
Good To Be Alive: This is one of the artsy tracks John talks about that's new territory. Good to be alive
incorporates instruments not usually associated with rock such as the accordion,
mandolin, dulcimer and bells. It'll be a positive song; in it the protagonist
realizes that he has a lot to be thankful for in his life.
Not Gonna Die: We are pretty positive that Not Gonna Die is a heavy song. Its going to be in the vein of Awake and Alive and Comatose. As for the lyrics, "Not Gonna Die" refers to the fact that the protagonist is not gonna die, but
rather have an eternal life in Heaven.
Circus For A Psycho: Possibly the most unusually titled Skillet song thus far, Circus For A Psycho is epic! It's a heavy rock song and as the title suggests, it's crazy! In this song we hear some awesome guitar solos like in Whispers In The Dark. John hinted about Seth's
"absolute shredding solos" and this song has them! In the song it talks about the beast inside that is "killing him slow." the beast in the song represents sin that is taking over the protagonist.
American Noise: Skillet's second single does not disappoint! Different than anything Skillet has ever done
before, American Noise is a classic American heartland anthem. It is also John
Cooper's favorite song on the record because of how much it relates to him
growing up. It's about a kid who wants to fit into society. In the song he's
told not to conform to society but to be himself. Overall it's a great song!
Madness In Me: This song may be reminiscent of Monster and Sometimes. In both,
the protagonist has problems within himself. Part of the lyrics are "Can't change the past, but I can fight to save today"
Salvation: We know quite a bit about this song. It sounds like it'll be a duet with John and Korey (sorta like The Last Night). We know that it is rock and we know for sure the plot of the song. We know this because of an interview from CCM Magazine with John Cooper: "The story's apex is the song "Salvation," where the protagonist realizes that he desperately needs to be saved." And in realizing this, he asks Jesus for forgiveness.
Fire and Fury: I think this song is moderately heavy. Other
than that we really don't know much else. It is obviously important to John
because the title is tattooed on his fingers.
My Religion: This song will be an upbeat song. It'll have elements of Amazing Grace in it. I think it'll be a look at the diference between religion and a personal relationship with Jesus. I'm exited to hear it!
Hard to Find: Hard to find will be a ballad. Hard to find may refer to the protagonist having a hard time going through this world.
What I Believe: The last song on the album is ROCK! I think it'll be about the protagonist
taking a stand and boldly proclaiming his faith.
